Over the course of an Olympic cycle, a top-level rower will train over 30 hours a week, 50 weeks per year, 4 years in a row, all in preparation for one, 5 1/2 minute race.
Though the training is physically intense, the mental side of this preparation cannot be overlooked. In the Olympic final, everyone is big, everyone is strong, and everyone is fit -- it's the mental toughness that separates a gold from a silver medal.
In his keynote presentation, Olympic Moments: Shaping Excellence and Defining Leadership, Kyle Hamilton discusses how aspects of fear, confidence, and preparation can create an inspirational performance in the pressure of an Olympic final and how these same factors can derail a project before it even gets to that point.
