Biography

Warren Macdonald recognizes change as a process, not an end result.

April 1997 redefined life’s boundaries for Warren Macdonald. At 31 years of age, Warren spent two days alone, pinned under a one-ton boulder, after a freak rock fall whilst hiking in the Australian wilderness. He survived, only to undergo the amputation of both legs at mid thigh.

Just ten months later he displayed the courage he now shares with audiences worldwide, successfully climbing first Cradle Mountain then Federation Peak, Australia’s toughest mountain summit!

Warren’s first book, “One Step Beyond” has sold 12,000+ copies. His film documenting the epic four-week journey to Federation Peak, “The Second Step” has been acclaimed worldwide, screening on National Geographic Television, and winning five international awards including Grand Prize at the prestigious “Banff Mountain Film Festival” in 2002.

In February 2003, he became the first double above-knee amputee to reach the summit of Africa’s tallest peak, Mt. Kilimanjaro (19,222ft), and more recently, in a spectacular effort requiring more than 3000 pull-ups (!) over 4 days, created history once again in an ascent of America's tallest cliff face, El Capitan.
